A 27-year-old site manager at a national housebuilder in Milton Keynes has won a major accolade for excellence in construction for the fifth year in a row.
Jack Allen, who works at Bovis Homes’ Whitehouse Park, in Crownhill, received the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Quality Award 2022 after being picked from more than 8,000 site managers across the UK. It follows his NHBC Seal of Excellence last year and Regional Award in 2020 – placing him among the best in the country.
Vistry Group – which includes brand Bovis Homes – has received its highest number of NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award winners this year – with 29 site managers from across the country picking up the accolade.
Jack, who is one of the youngest Vistry site managers to win the accolade, said: “I’m ecstatic to win five Pride in the Job Quality Awards in a row, it hasn’t quite sunk in – but this really is because of the team around me. We have a fantastic location at Whitehouse Park in Milton Keynes, with high quality Bovis Homes properties and we’re just delighted to be recognised for all our hard work again this year. To any young site managers out there, it really is possible to achieve your goals if you are committed and confident in the homes you build.”
Just 443 inspirational site managers from an initial pool of over 8,000 have been chosen to receive a Quality Award.
Jack, who has been in the role for five years, has also won four Seal of Excellence awards in a row – the next stage of the Pride in the Job Awards before the Regional Awards.
Andrew Bloxham, managing director of Vistry Northern Home Counties, said: “Jack is a great role model for young site managers. To win five Pride in the Job Quality Awards in a row is beyond commendable and just shows the fantastic quality of Jack’s work and the Bovis Homes brand. Whitehouse Park is a wonderful development and we are very happy with how the community is growing.”
Jack, who attended Walton High school, started his career in housebuilding as a labourer and storeman and worked his way up to site manager.
Pride in the Job, first launched more than forty years ago, is the most highly regarded competition in the housebuilding industry. Judging for the awards is rigorous, with each site manager assessed across areas including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety. Thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verification have taken place to decide the winners.
The competition celebrates the vital role they play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.
Steve Wood, NHBC chief executive, said: “For more than 40 years, Pride in the Job has been an important part of our work to help drive construction quality. Winning site managers tell us that it inspires them to give a little extra and to strive harder for ever-higher standards in housebuilding.
“At NHBC we believe that the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their site team has the greatest influence on the quality of the finished home. By promoting friendly rivalry, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence, Pride in the Job supports the delivery of homes of the highest quality.
“Congratulations to all the Pride in the Job 2022 Quality Award winners. They are an inspiration to us all and should be very proud of the quality of new homes they are creating.”
The Quality Award winners will go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners unveiled in January.
