Former Coldstream Guardsman James MacMartin is on track to win an industry award just three years after launching his career in housebuilding.
James, who saw active service in the Afghanistan with the world-famous regiment, has been shortlisted in the New Service Leaver of the Year category at the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards.
The former sergeant is one of six Vistry Group employees who were chosen as finalists from 700 nominations.
James joined Vistry South West in 2021 and completed his training as an assistant site manager in just seven months – the fastest progression ever seen within the company.
A key part of James’s success has been the ability to draw on the experience and skills he acquired during his time with the military.
Site manager Marcus Ford, said: “James is fantastic at his job and is a really valuable member of the team.
“What has impressed me the most is his rapport with the customers, he knows them all well and he works quickly to resolve any issues they may have.
“James has fitted in extremely well into his new role and is not only learning new skills he is supporting all of those around him.”
According to those who work with him, James has already shown huge potential and there are high hopes he will progress through the business and onto a senior role.
Bovis Homes – part of Vistry – was awarded the Ministry of Defence’s Gold Award for the Employer Recognition Scheme in 2019. It first signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2016 and was the first dedicated housebuilder to receive the Gold Award. Vistry re-signed the covenant last year to reaffirm its commitment to the armed forces, including providing employment opportunities and helping those connected to the military onto the housing ladder.
The British Ex-Forces in Business Awards take place at Grosvenor House in London on 8th September.
