Vistry Group, Britain’s biggest housebuilder, has received planning approval to build the first phase of 94 homes at Wolborough Grange, Newton Abbot.
The first phase will comprise one, two, three and four bedroom high quality and sustainable homes, including shared ownership and social rent tenures, and there will also be new public open space and a children’s play area. The homes will be built to Future Homes Standard – a new Government standard that aims to decarbonise new homes by focusing on improving heating, hot water systems, and reducing heat waste – meaning the new homes will produce 75-80% less carbon emissions than homes delivered under current regulations.
This phase forms part of the larger Wolborough Grange development, which will be built in consortium with other housebuilders to provide 1,210 homes in total. Vistry Group, which builds Bovis, Countryside and Linden properties, will be delivering 726 homes at Wolborough.
The development will support the local community by contributing more than £1.75 million towards off-site pedestrian and cycle improvements, playing pitches, bus services and a local travel plan.
Emma Colin, regional managing director at Vistry Devon South West, commented: “We’re delighted to receive reserved matters planning approval for the first phase of homes and infrastructure works, including the first phase of a new link road. The road will service key parts of the development and when complete will play a key role connecting Totnes Road in the west to Kingskerwell Road, and in turn the South Devon Link Road to the east.
“Wolborough Grange is going to be a fantastic development of much-needed homes for the local community, the properties have been designed to sympathetically blend in with the surrounding local vernacular and we hope to start initial works early in 2025.”
