Go ahead for 196 affordable homes in Coventry with more than £1.5million investment for the local community

Vistry Group is poised to start building 196 new affordable homes at the Sphinx Drive development to the east of Coventry having gained planning permission at committee.

The £46m scheme, delivered in partnerships with Platform Housing Group, has received local councillor support as it promises to bring the area a much-needed mix of affordable rent and shared ownership options. Earth works are already underway on the site and construction work on the new homes will start in the coming weeks.

As well as transforming a disused golf course into much-needed affordable housing for the area, Countryside Partnerships is investing heavily in the local community with a commitment to provide in excess of £1.5 million to bolster local services including money for education, healthcare, highways and the offsetting biodiversity scheme.

Adam Sharpe, managing director, Countryside Partnerships South West Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to have secured planning permission for Sphinx Drive and to be working with Platform Housing here in Coventry. Both organisations are committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes, and our work at Sphinx Drive builds on our projects already underway in other parts of the Midlands. Together we will transform this site into a fantastic place to live and provide real opportunities for people living in the area to own a new, affordable home and become part of a vibrant new community.”

Kate Ellison, director of land, Partnerships and Business Development at Platform Housing Group, said, “We’re delighted to be part of this development that will bring much-needed affordable housing to this part of Coventry. It’s great to be working alongside Countryside Partnerships and this development is another great example of strong partnership work that will bring great benefits to the overall housing provision for the area. We look forward to being able to offer sustainable, energy efficient homes to our customers and to supporting the wider community to grow and flourish.”
