Vistry Group, was pleased to welcome Chancellor Rachel Reeves to the Fairham development in Nottinghamshire. During her visit, she had the opportunity to see the significant progress being made and engage in discussions about the current challenges facing the housing industry.
Phil McHugh, Divisional Operations Director at Vistry, welcomed Chancellor Reeves to the Alvaredus site in Fairham, where she observed firsthand the development’s progress. Joined by Alison Crofton, Chief Property Officer at Homes England, and Tom Clowes, Managing Director at Clowes Development, the Chancellor was briefed on the development’s progress, including Vistry’s tenure split/partnerships model, modern methods of construction (MMC), and the impressive pace of delivery.
Discussions focused on Homes England's role in the project and how Vistry’s partnership with them is driving housing delivery. Chancellor Reeves also explored government measures to improve housing productivity, along with the challenges of planning delays, resource shortages, and the financial constraints faced by housing associations.
Following the meeting, the Chancellor toured the site, visiting first- and second-fix plots, accompanied by Phil McHugh. National media attended the tour, providing a platform to discuss key issues such as skills shortages, apprenticeships, government initiatives for first-time buyers, and the financial challenges facing the housing sector.
Chancellor Reeves also met with key team members, including Regional Managing Director Lee Parry, as well as on-site contractors, gaining insight into their work. The visit concluded with press interviews and a debrief with Vistry and Homes England teams, who expressed positive feedback on the visit and the progress at Fairham.
