Green Light for Major Regeneration: 39 New Social Rental Homes for Over-55s in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Vistry Group, the UK’s leading provider of mixed-tenure homes, in partnership with Aspire Housing, is excited to announce the start of construction on 39 social rental homes for individuals aged over 55 on Cross Street, Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme. This new development will deliver a mix of 23 apartments, eight bungalows, and eight maisonettes, significantly enhancing supported living options in the area.
Dave Bradley, Managing Director of Vistry North Midlands, said: "I am delighted we have been given the green light to start work on the 39 high-quality new homes in Newcastle-under-Lyme. This marks a significant step forward in bringing much-needed affordable housing for those in their later years to the area, creating a vibrant and sustainable community. We look forward to working with Aspire to bring this development to life and provide homes that cater to the needs of local people."
This initiative represents the third phase of the Aspire Housing Cross Street development in Newcastle- under-Lyme, a major regeneration project focused on constructing high-quality affordable housing. Phase one saw the completion of nine bungalows, while Phase two, currently underway, will result in the construction of 43 homes.
Dan Gray, Executive Director of Place at Aspire Housing, said: “We are exceptionally proud to begin work on the next stage of our Chesterton regeneration, investing £20million into the local area. “This third phase of the regeneration programme builds upon the exciting journey we started in 2018, when we first met with residents and put forward plans to transform the housing offer in the area.
“We were able to introduce 9 new homes in 2022 in the first phase, with an additional 43 homes currently being built in our second phase. This third phase will help us to further support our over-55s customers, delivering 39 homes to suit a range of different needs.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the local community continue to grow and thrive as we break ground on this next phase and we're extremely grateful to Homes England and Newcastle Town Deal for their contributions towards this programme.”
Construction on phase three of the project is set to begin in the coming weeks, with completion anticipated by the end of 2026.
