22 affordable homes handed over to new residents in Caversham

Vistry Group, the UK’s leading provider of mixed-tenure homes, has completed and handed over 22 new homes at its Emmer Green Drive development in Caversham.

Following the first completions in November 2024, a further 11 affordable rent homes and 11 shared ownership properties have now been handed over to affordable housing provider Abri, helping to address the urgent need for housing in the area.

When fully complete, Emmer Green Drive will consist of 156 new homes for private sale and 67 affordable properties available for local people through low-cost rent and shared ownership, alongside play areas and green open space for recreation and wildlife. The new homes are being built on the former Reading Golf Club site off Kidmore End Road, in a range of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom designs.

The majority of the properties at the development will benefit from photovoltaic solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, while a third will be heated by air source heat pumps.

Trevor Wicks, Managing Director for Vistry Thames Valley, said: “Following the first completions late last year, we are proud to continue this momentum at Emmer Green Drive by delivering a further 22 much-needed affordable homes to local residents. This milestone reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable housing that meets the needs of the community. We are delighted to be working with Abri to help more people take their first steps onto the housing ladder or secure a home at an affordable rent in this sought-after location.”
