Inspiring the next generation of builders: Undy Primary School pupils visit Seymour Place

60 year four pupils from Undy Primary School visited Seymour Place in Undy to see what was being built in their local area and to find out more about the housebuilding process.

As well as a tour of the Vistry site – which features Bovis and Linden properties – the students learnt about health and safety, watched a bricklaying demonstration and had a chance to try out the new skill, which they all embraced.

The site team explained what was involved in building a new homes development and discussed the variety of work done on site, from plumbing and carpentry to bricklaying and decorating.

The pupils also had the opportunity to view the show home and an unwrapped home, which features exposed walls and ceilings to reveal the piping, electrics and structural components of a new home.

Teacher, Miss Kirkman, commented: “Year four loved visiting the building site and watching the construction work. The bricklaying demonstration was a big hit and it was wonderful to see every child have a go, as it really brought this learning experience to life.

“It was fascinating to look behind the scenes in the unwrapped home and it made them view the show home very differently, as they had an understanding of the work involved.

“The children were very excited and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the development – a huge thanks to the team for facilitating this visit.”

Seymour Place’s site manager, Dave Buckingham, said: “We were delighted to welcome the pupils to site. The children were enthusiastic and it was brilliant to see them so engaged – we answered a lot of questions and hope we’ve inspired a few budding builders!”

Dave was joined by Andrew Stanton, assistant site manager; Emma Mackay, PR manager; Mike Laws, area sales manager; Victoria Halifax, sales consultant; Charlie Turner, sales consultant; and the bricklaying demonstration was conducted by Kevin and the team at Mike Etheridge Construction.

Vistry is creating 142 new two, three and four bedroom homes and a trim trail in Undy. Supporting the local community, the development will provide over £1.67 million towards education, a play provision, off-site recreation, sustainable transport, open space and green infrastructure.
