Update: City Gateway, Bristol

Update: City Gateway, Bristol

Update: City Gateway, Bristol

Background

Vistry Group is working to transform the former industrial, brownfield site into a high-quality new place to live, with a significant number of affordable homes for Bristolians. The new City Gateway development is being built on the old Ashton Rail Yard and will feature 220 new homes, including 98 designated affordable properties. Once complete, it will play an important role in the wider Western Harbour regeneration area.

Cycle path closure

Work is well under way, however a section of cycle route 33 – near the Brunel Way flyover, adjacent to the allotments near Bedminster Cricket Club – has been closed to facilitate infrastructure works and a new cycle route will be delivered as part of the project.

We consulted with Bristol City Council, Sustrans and Hotwells and District Allotment Association to minimise the disruption and a diversion has been put in place to ensure cyclists and pedestrians can continue their journey safely.

Is there a diversion in place?

The closure was approved by Bristol City Council and both BCC and Sustrans approved the diversion route, which ensures cyclists and pedestrians can continue their journey safely. Please click here (Festival way Footpath closure (2)) to see the diversion routes for cyclists and pedestrians to use during the cycle path closure.

When will the cycle route re-open?

The cycle route was due to re-open on 28th January 2025, however works to remove the substation, which are outside of our control, have been delayed and the cycle route will now re-open on Monday 31st March. We apologise for this delay and are working as hard as possible to re-open the route ahead of this date.

When did the cycle route close?

The cycleway closed on Tuesday 28th May at 7.30am and was re-opened temporarily for Bristol Balloon Fiesta from Friday 9th August until Monday 12th August.

Why did the cycle route need to close?

The cycle route needed to close to facilitate essential infrastructure works at Vistry’s City Gateway development in Bristol. A new cycle route will be delivered as part of the project, including benches and enhanced landscaping.

Will you be providing updates on the work?

• Yes, diversion signage is in place and a QR code has been created to provide a map of the diversion route and the latest information

• Access to the allotments next to the site will remain open, however there will be a couple of times when vehicular access is not possible. We will continue to liaise with the chair of the allotment association to minimise the disruption and will provide as much notice as possible

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience during these essential works
