Great Oldbury, near Stonehouse is located three miles from Stroud in Gloucestershire, on the edge of the Cotswolds. The new community will bring 1,350 new much-needed homes to the area.

Vistry started work at Great Oldbury in January 2021 and is building 439 homes on the site over three phases.

The site manager won two NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Awards and gained a Seal of Excellence whilst leading the work at Great Oldbury.

Housing Delivery and Affordable Homes

Vistry is building and selling 308 homes on this development to our open market customers through our Linden Homes and Bovis Homes brands.

Working with partners Bromford, Leaf Living and Sage Homes, the development offers a mix of housing tenures and varying house types to suit all affordability levels. Vistry has delivered 132 homes through its Section 106 obligations.

This development will provide Gloucestershire people with high-quality and much-needed homes that they can be proud to call their own.

“Great Oldbury demonstrates how collaborative working can make a positive impact on local communities.”

Claire Richardson

Sales Manager at Bromford

We’re grateful to be helping meet the demand for high-quality shared ownership homes in great places to live across Gloucestershire, and Great Oldbury is no exception. The development is in the unique position within rural Gloucestershire, taking advantage of the countryside while being close to excellent, well-connected larger settlements.

“Our collaboration with Vistry means that our future homeowners can be assured that they’re settling in an excellent location with a high-quality home.”

Karon O’Callaghan

Sales Manager at Bromford

“Increasing the availability of genuinely affordable homes is at the core of Vistry’s purpose as a business. This is especially important in areas such as the Cotswolds where house prices can be out of reach for many people.”

Hayley Ody

Regional Sales and Marketing Director at Bovis Homes

Resident, Harry Gardner, was able to buy a four-bedroom home through a shared ownership scheme at the site. He said: “I was really surprised at what I could get. I was thrilled when I realised what was achievable. I went into the sales office and had a really lovely greeting from the team there. They were very helpful and welcoming. It’s a great location and it’s not far from Bristol or Cheltenham, and close to the River Severn for walks.”

Community Facilities

Residents at Great Oldbury have access to play areas, a pre-school, primary academy, sports pitches and a pavilion.

The community facilities were provided in partnership with all the developers at Great Oldbury.

Employment and Local Business

The site currently employs a plumbing apprentice on site directly, and there are further apprentices supported through the supply chain. The site also employs a trainee site manager, and the assistant site manager is also being developed through Vistry training schemes.

The site employs local contractors, including Chosen Carpentry and Redwind, which have worked closely with Vistry Cotswolds and grown alongside the region.

The Forest Green Rovers FC were part of the show home opening and Vistry has donated £500 to Great Oldbury Youth FC and £250 to The Shrubberies school in Stonehouse.

Commitment to Nature and Sustainability

Vistry is committed to Homes for Nature, a plan to help wildlife thrive in the places we build.

This development has:

  • Worked with British Hedgehog Preservation Society to install hedgehog highways
  • Promoted Pollinate in Partnership, with Considered planting for bumblebees

Great Oldbury incorporates key sustainability features, including solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, and innovative waste-water heat recovery systems, supporting a greener way of living.
